Jan Urban

Senior Associates

Jan Urban is a senior associate at Havel, Holásek & Partners. He specialises in energy law, especially renewables, and mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.

In the field of energy law, Jan focuses primarily on the legal and regulatory aspects of the energy business, including the generation and distribution of, and trade in, electricity; construction of new power facilities, including those utilising renewable resources; and management of existing power facilities.

In the area of acquisitions and divestitures, Jan has been involved in a number of high-profile transactions on both the sell and buy sides, mainly in the energy, construction and automotive sectors.

Before joining Havel, Holásek & Partners in 2010, Jan worked at the Czech law firm bpv Braun Haškovcová (the successor of Haarmann Hemmelrath) and at the Prague branch of the international law firm Norton Rose.

TRANSACTIONS

  • advising a German producer of plastic car parts on the sale of its Czech subsidiary
  • advising a Dutch investor on the acquisition of a shopping centre in the Czech Republic
  • advising a French construction and concession group in connection with the acquisition of one of the largest Czech construction companies
  • advising a leading global energy company on a restructuring of the group in the Czech Republic in connection with unbundling
  • advising a bank in connection with assessments of photovoltaic projects for the purpose of their subsequent financing
  • advising a multinational private equity fund on the acquisition of numerous photovoltaic projects
  • advising a Czech investment group on the acquisition of a portfolio of land plots for planting fast-growing trees and for the production of biomass
  • advising a bank in connection with the assessment of biogas projects for the purpose of their subsequent financing
  • due diligence investigation of the Czech branch of a major German bank for the purpose of a contemplated acquisition
