Havel, Holásek & Partners has again supported a Czech-Slovak competition of law faculty students in rhetoric speech – Legal Debate Tournament

Havel, Holásek & Partners was a general partner of the second year of the Legal Debate Tournament competition. Female and male students of the six Czech and Slovak law faculties of Brno, Olomouc, Prague, Bratislava, Košice and Trnava met in this year’s speech competition dedicated to criminal topics. The finale between faculties took place on 21 April 2017 in the premises of the Law Faculty of Masaryk University in Brno.

The winner of the debate was Jana Babicová, who received from our law firm a scholarship of seven thousand Czech crowns. In second place was Ivana Trokšiarová, who received a five thousand crown scholarship, and Zdeněk Gertsberger who received a scholarship of three thousand Czech crowns for the best form of rhetoric speech.

“Havel, Holásek & Partners has for a long time supported young, talented students in their personal development, either directly by offering them internships in our law firm, or by implementing and sponsoring similar projects to the Legal Debate Tournament. Although legal faculties generate hundreds of graduates each year, however, there still remains an insufficient number of top female and male lawyers in the legal market. Student competitions help increase the quality and level of legal studies and make apparent talents visible,” says Jaroslav Havel, managing partner at Havel, Holásek & Partners.

The winners of this year’s Legal Debate Tournament competition were selected by a five-member panel consisting of Jan Lata, a public prosecutor at the Czech Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, Mária Patakyová, a professor at the Law Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava, Tomáš Sobko, an associate professor at law faculties in Brno and Olomouc and at the Institute of State and Law of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, David Černý, a doctor at said Institute of State and Law, and František Korbel, a partner at Havel Holásek & Partners, who also is the director of Havel Holásek & Partners Academy, and a university lecturer at the Law Faculty of Charles University in Prague.

Havel, Holásek & Partners financially supported last year’s first year of the Legal Debate Tournament competition, which included contesting teams from five Czech and Slovak law faculties (Brno, Olomouc, Plzeň, Prague and Bratislava), and the winning team was awarded a symbolic prize of fifteen thousand Czech crowns for the finale speech duel on the topic of legalisation of euthanasia, which took place on 1 June 2016, exactly 15 years after the foundation of Havel & Holásek.

Student internships and other events for students

Havel, Holásek & Partners cooperates with about sixty law faculty students and several other students of other universities primarily of economic specialisation. “Thanks to our large client base, immediately after joining our law firm, law students will be challenged by a wide range of cases, which significantly strengthens their practical skills and orientation in individual legal and business sectors. To those who prove their abilities, we offer the chance of legal training directly after they graduate,” says Daniel Soukup, HR Director at Havel, Holásek & Partners. Students can also use a full range of facilities and know-how of the largest Czech law firm. For example, they can attend, for free, seminars in the training Havel, Holásek & Partners Academy. Under its auspices, this year for the second time in Prague and Brno there held a series of legal workshops on selected topics from real practice in the attendance of top lecturers. All law faculty students can apply to this student academy.

Law faculty students are interested in working with Havel, Holásek & Partners. This was also confirmed in this year’s survey TOP Employers, in which our firm, for three consecutive years, was awarded the top employer in the Czech Republic among law firms.
