Successfully representing the Czech Football Association in two disputes in international arbitration before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne

At the beginning of this year Havel, Holásek & Partners achieved a major success in the field of international law. It represented the Czech Football Association in two disputes with the club FK Bohemians Praha and football player Martin Sus before the international Court of Arbitration for Sport – CAS.

The first dispute involved the disagreement of the Střížkov club with the descent from the Fotball National League (second league) to the Czech Football League (third league) in the season 2014/15, and a related claim for compensation amounting to several million Czech crowns.

The dispute with football player Martin Sus involved the enforcement of a penalty of over CZK 10 million. This penalty was adjudicated by a Dutch court due to the fact that in previous years, the Czech Football Association allegedly failed to issue to him an international transfer card for his transfer from 1. FC Brno to the Dutch club Twente Ensechede.

The CAS rejected motions by FK Bohemians Praha and Martina Sus. No remedies can be filed against the decision of the CAS, which means that these decisions are final. The cases were resolved with the participation of our arbitration team, namely the firm’s partner, Dušan Sedláček, counsel Jiří Kmec  and junior associate René Cienciala.
